Job Description

The Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society is a trusted ally to families, communities & cultures in creating safe, nurturing environments for children and youth to grow and succeed.

The Court / Legal Services Administrative Assistant provides Legal support services to lawyers, supervisors and front line staff.The function of the Court / Legal Services Administrative Assistant is to support the provision of all services required under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act provided by the Society.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Legal support services to lawyers, supervisors and front line staff.
  • Preparation of court documentation including typing of court applications, affidavits and court orders and general legal administrative services.
  • Attend court for the filing of documents.
  • Diarize applicable return dates for court matters, tasks, and other pertinent information pertaining to court files
  • Maintain file records and assisting with Agency filing system.
  • Inputting / maintaining Legal Administrative Database (LAD) and Child Protection Information Network (CPIN).
  • Coverage for other Court / Legal Administrative Assistant’s absences.
  • Other legal support services as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • Law Clerk Diploma or equivalency/Legal Office Assistant certificate;
  • Demonstrated discretion regarding the access and handling of confidential information;
  • Fast and efficient typing skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when preparing required court documentation;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to adhere to deadlines;
  • Preference will be given to persons with extensive experience working with other cultural communities, and/or possess lived experience within these communities;
  • Preference will be given to persons with a strong understanding of other cultures, heritages and traditions; and a commitment to developing the highest quality culturally-appropriate service possible for the various communities that we serve;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and other CAS specific software; and
  • Proficiency inputting/maintaining LAD and CPIN
